SINGAPORE - The Health Ministry will undertake a holistic review of the systems and processes at nursing homes to prevent incidents of abuse from happening again, said Health Minister Gan Kim Yong. "It's important for us to learn from this incident and ... see whether we can improve on the surveillance or monitoring system, as well as how we can work closer with the nursing homes to advise them," he said. A video showing Nightingale Nursing Home staff flinging an elderly woman onto a bed and slapping her sparked public outcry. Speaking to reporters at a dengue exhibition, Mr Gan apologised to the family and said: "Such lapses are of grave concern to us." That was why the Ministry suspended the nursing home since April, even as investigations were in progress, he said. Mr Gan said his ministry is now monitoring the home.
