M'sia-bound traffic comes to near-standstill for 2nd weekend in a row following introduction of fingerprint scanners

Yesterday, the long tailback on the Causeway in the direction towards Malaysia stretched back as far as 1km. Some motorists reported a wait of up to seven hours, despite efforts by officers to speed up clearance. -- ST PHOTO: ALPHONSUS CHERN JOHOR BARU - FOR the second weekend since Kuala Lumpur introduced its new fingerprint-scanning system, thousands of motorists bound for Malaysia had to wait hours in line at the two checkpoints. Traffic came to a near-standstill on Saturday afternoon at the Causeway and the Second Link heading into Malaysia, with a tailback stretching as long as 1km into Singapore. Malaysian immigration officers announced they would try to speed up clearance by attaching cables to the scanners so they could reach people seated in cars.
