With the Thai election on July 3 approaching, it promises to be a close fight between Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's Democrat Party and the opposition Puea Thai Party led by Yingluck Shinawatra, Thaksin's sister. In Singapore recently, the Thai government spokesman, Dr Panitan Wattanayagorn, spoke to senior reporter Ansley Ng about the role of the powerful Thai military in the polls, and asked if Thaksin will accept the result if the Democrat Party wins. The Thai media recently reported that the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) has been trying to monitor and intimidate members of the opposition.
