How to get a certificate of competence DOCTORS of any speciality can offer aesthetic services if they have earned a certificate of competence in that area. There are two ways to obtain one. Doctors can attend courses approved by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC). These half-day workshops focus on specific procedures such as botox injections and chemical peels. Each course ends with a multiple-choice exam. Alternatively, if doctors have a certificate issued by a body other than the SMC, they can notify the council, which will then verify whether the document can be considered a certificate of competence. An SMC sub-committee oversees the certification process. The council does not have figures on the number of doctors who hold certificates of competence.
