SingTel ups the ante

SINGAPORE - Amid the explosive growth of new Web-enabled devices - such as tablets - and bandwidth-hungry multimedia applications, mobile data usage has shot up to a point where telcos here are beginning to offer priority access to the network for high-end customers. Yesterday, SingTel announced its Priority Pass service as it disclosed, for the first time, the "typical speeds" of its mobile broadband plans - addressing a perennial bugbear among telco customers that the actual broadband speeds were a far cry from the maximum advertised broadband speeds. SingTel's new service - described by its executive vice-president (digital consumer) Yuen Kuan Moon as a "game changer" - gives priority to customers on its existing 7.2 Mbps and 21 Mbps mobile broadband plans when the network is stretched.
