Are netizens all 'NATO' online only?

The Straits Times has taken a dig at netizens for “NATO” (No action, talk only) in a commentary published yesterday titled “Activism or lip service on social networks?” in which its Assistant Editor Serene Goh opined that online ‘activism’ displayed by netizens is unlikely to be translated into political activism in real life. Quoting the recent Survey on Political Traits and Media Use by the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) which found that more than 70 per cent of Singaporeans aged 21 and above agreed or strongly agreed with the statement ‘It is more important to have good economic growth than freedom of speech’, Ms Goh expressed doubts that Singaporeans will go far for the freedoms they want.
