This event is known as a total lunar eclipse where the Moon is completely in the Earth's shadow. Because the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon, only red light from the Sun is able to reach the Moon's surface. The blood moon can be seen by the naked eye and does not require telescopes. For a few hours, other planets such as Saturn, Venus, Jupiter and Mars will also be visible. This total lunar eclipse is especially rare for Singaporeans because the entire process of the Moon being covered and uncovered by the Earth's shadow will be visible here.
