(TTR) Majority of netizens do not believe in ‘low’ inemployment rate of 1.9 percent

An overwhelming majority of netizens do not believe that Singapore’s unemployment rate is only 1.9 percent for the first quarter for 2011, according to statistics released by the Manpower Ministry. As of 5pm yesterday, 739 respondents indicate that they do not believe the figures compared to only 35 who believe in an online poll done by TR Facebook . Many netizens pointed out the glaring flaw in the statistics which lumped citizens and foreigners (PRs) together under the same category of ‘resident’ workforce which is almost unheard of elsewhere in the world. For example, Australia excludes foreign residents working in Australia in its employment figures (read more here ) Belinda Yap scoffed at the rosy figures: “Were they counting foreign workers or what???
