Thai teen's family sues SMRT for $3.4million

A director of the Tawandang restaurant, Mr Wanchai Ruengkitpinyo, presenting Nitcharee with gifts during her birthday party on Thursday. SINGAPORE - THE family of Nitcharee Peneakchanasak, the Thai teenage girl who lost both her legs after an accident at Ang Mo Kio MRT station in April, is suing SMRT for $3.4 million. The Straits Times reported that the writ was filed in the High Court here and was served to SMRT yesterday. The transport operator has confirmed that, and said that its lawyers were handling the matter. The suit comes after the teen's family rejected SMRT's offer of $5,000 in compensation. The girl's father, Mr Kittanesh Peneakchanasak, 56, said that the sum was "unacceptable".
