Sentosa Beach Safety Day sets swimathon record

SINGAPORE: Sentosa's inaugural beach safety day - the Sentosa Red and Yellow Day - was officially launched on Saturday. To mark the day, 137 swimmers took to the water at Siloso Beach for a swimathon. They did a total of about 10,000 laps, creating an entry in the Singapore Book of Records for the most number of laps in open water in three hours. Besides the swimathon, a Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Sentosa Development Corporation and the National Water Safety Council to promote beach and water safety nationwide. A Beach Safety First programme for schools was launched 10 months ago on the mainland. To date, Sentosa has brought its beach safety message to 40,000 primary and secondary pupils through fun activities.
