4,000 people walk barefoot for charity

SINGAPORE : About 4,000 people walked barefoot on Saturday morning at Gardens by the Bay East to raise funds for the less fortunate. Former Cabinet minister and current Chairman of Temasek Holdings, S Dhanabalan flagged off the event. Participants not only bared their pockets, but also the soles of their feet. "The idea is to remember that there are many people in the world who are so poor that they don't have a pair of shoes. For Singaporeans, to walk without shoes is a very unusual experience. The tagline is, we wear no shoes to remember those with no homes. Hopefully through the event, people will be inspired to think about poverty-fighting," said Yong Teck Meng, National Director, Habitat for Humanity Singapore.
