Michael Lee Sunday, June 19, 2011 Trainer Patrick Shaw’s overhaul of his stable with two-year-olds is starting to show results with the debut victory of one of them on Sunday – Tzar. Punted down to $13 favouritism ahead of Coliseum in the $65,000 Restricted Maiden (2&3YO) race over 1100m on Polytrack, the Gonski gelding owned in partnership by Fred Crabbia and the Tmen Stable, was one of the best away from his barrier No 1 to take up the early running. Tzar (Barend Vorster) leads throughout to win on debut. Jockey Barend Vorster did not insist when noted frontrunner Coliseum came whipping around for apprentice Dennis Oon to grab the lead at the 800m. The South African-bred gelding could not cross and when Tzar kicked again at the top of the straight, the issue was quickly put beyond doubt.
