From our reader: "I was surprised when M1 sent me a bill for $100 for what it termed a 'lucky number levy fee'."

I RECENTLY ported my mobile phone number from M1 to SingTel and was surprised when M1 sent me a bill for $100 for what it termed a "lucky number levy fee". When I called, I was told that my number was considered a lucky number and if I were to terminate it without porting, I would not be charged, but since I was porting it over to SingTel, I was charged $100. In fact, I have ported a truly lucky number, which I selected from StarHub, to SingTel some time back and StarHub did not charge me a cent for it. M1 claimed this clause is in my contract, which of course, was never pointed out to me. If this is so, I caution those who are planning to subscribe to M1 to read their contracts closely.
