Thailand's Phue Thai ahead of Democrats: opinion polls

CHIANGMAI, Thailand: Ahead of Thailand's general election on July 3, opinion polls show the opposition Phue Thai is pulling ahead of the ruling Democrats. Thailand's second largest city Chiangmai is not only Yingluck Shinawatra's hometown, but a Phue Thai party stronghold. Out of the 10 MP seats in this province, about eight are expected to go to Phue Thai and very few to the Democrats. Polls are showing that the Phue Thai party is slightly ahead nationwide over the Democrats, even in Bangkok. With a little more than two weeks to go before the election, there are doubts as to what Thailand's political leadership will look like. If no party wins an outright majority, then a coalition government is likely.
