Good news for football fans: You won't have to subscribe to a different set-top box to catch Euro 2012

SINGAPORE - When the European football championship (Euro 2012) rolls around next year, football fans will for the first time feel the benefits of the Government's requirement that pay-television retailers "cross carry" each other's exclusive content. SingTel and StarHub are expected to start bidding for the broadcast rights for Euro 2012, once the Media Development Authority (MDA) releases its new guidelines soon. And regardless of which pay-TV provider wins the battle, fans will be able to enjoy all 31 matches without changing their set-top box. However, they will have to pay the subscription fees set by the telco that bags the broadcast rights. Euro 2012, which will be co-hosted by Poland and the Ukraine from June 8 to July 1, will be the first major sporting event to be affected by the Mandatory Cross Carriage Measure, which was introduced by the MDA in March last year...
