Gastric cancer treatment set to get boost: SINGAPORE: A new gastric cancer vaccine being developed in Singapore

SINGAPORE: A new gastric cancer vaccine being developed in Singapore could provide patients with an alternative treatment option. The vaccine is a collaboration between the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) and Japanese biomedical company OncoTherapy Science,Inc (OTS). In as early as five years, gastric cancer patients could soon be treated with a monthly shot near the under-arm area. NCIS said the vaccine is currently in its early stages of testing, having recruited its first patient into the clinical trial just this month. It works by injecting five different types of peptides into the body, which kick-starts the immune system, which in turn attacks and destroys cancer cells.
