Over the past few days, the PAP government has been blowing their own trumpets boasting their success in lowering unemployment rate to a 3-year-low, 1.9%, in a recently published statistic, they seems to have deliberately omitted the issue of underemployment that has hit Singaporean Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians(PMETs) in their 40s and 50s. Many of these middle aged diploma and degree holders turned to become Taxi Drivers, Cleaners or self-employed(cardboard and tin cans collectors), if they are lucky. The unlucky ones will stay unemployed throughout their twilight years, face a broken marriage, lose their 30 year-mortgaged HDB love nest and probably resort to jumping into MRT tracks or Marina Barrage.
