1Malaysia chain of grocery shops will sells items at a 30-40% discount compared to market prices

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has launched a chain of grocery shops that sells items at a discount of between 30 to 40 per cent compared to market prices. The 1Malaysia shops will sell 250 basic grocery items under the brand "Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia" and will be run by supermarket operator Mydin Mohamed Holding Berhad, reported the New Straits Times yesterday. Mr Najib said the shops were in line with the 1Malaysia concept and aimed to help families lessen their burden. It was not clear if foreigners are allowed to buy from the shops. "It is (1Malaysia) not ceremonial, rhetoric or something distant. It has moved forward to offering the people products and services that meet their needs," he said at the launch of a shop at the Kelana Jaya LRT Station yesterday.
