US expects NATO's Afghan war drawdown #nato

WASHINGTON: The United States expects other NATO countries to announce their own Afghan troop withdrawals after President Barack Obama unveiled his US drawdown, the top US commander said on Thursday. "I think it is expected. Actually I've talked to the French leadership before, I've talked to the German leadership, I've talked to other countries. There is no question that these announcements are coming," said General David Petraeus, the outgoing commander of the NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan. "Now the question is of course what is the size of the reductions," he told lawmakers on Capitol Hill, a day after Obama announced plans to withdraw 33,000 surge troops by the end of September 2012, with the first 10,000 due to depart this year.
