S'pore SMEs eye China market

SINGAPORE: A survey by global banking giant HSBC shows eight out of 10 Singapore small businesses look to doing business in China in the near term. It said companies that can help provide infrastructure such as water treatment systems, schools, healthcare and green technology are likely to prosper there. Award-winning entrepreneur Ong Pang Aik knew how to grow his business from that of a sub-contractor handling small jobs to what is now a listed construction firm, Lian Beng. Expanding into China is on his mind although he said the company could use a different tack to be successful there. Mr Ong said: "The construction cost of a Singapore construction company in China would not be as low as that of a PRC construction company, hence Lian Beng is not likely to be competitive engaging in construction business in China.
