SINGAPORE - Filipino trader Felipe Marcos Pebenito, 53, is not welcome in Singapore and a Prohibition of Entry Order was made against him in 2003. The court heard that he had been permanently banned from re-entering the country after he was convicted of theft here in 2002. He was then sentenced to two years' jail for the offence. But that did not stop Pebenito from returning by using another name, accompanied by two other Filipino men: Valbarez Fidel IV Martelino, 56, and Jose G Puna, 62. The trio went on a crime spree- targeting jewellery shops and making off with valuables worth more than S$58,000. . Yesterday, District Judge Kessler Soh sentenced Martelino and Pebenito to 16 months and 44 months in jail, respectively. Puna, who had also previously entered Singapore under another name, was sentenced to 20 months' jail and fined S$2,000.
