High property prices are deterring Singaporeans from getting married and having kids, according to a Singaporean Nicholas Loh who wrote in to the Straits Times Forum today to express his concerns about Singapore’s decline in marriage rate to a new low last year. ‘This, combined with the record low fertility rate last year, presents an existential crisis for Singapore, within a few generations’ time,’ he wrote. The sky-rocketing property prices in recent years have coincided with the decline in the fertility rate as well despite the efforts of the PAP regime to mass-import foreigners from elsewhere to boost the flagging population.
