US report riddled with 'inaccuracies': S'pore

SINGAPORE - The United States has removed the Republic from its human trafficking watchlist but the Singapore Government has found little cause for cheer. Instead, in a hard-hitting response to the US Department of State's Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report 2011, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesperson said "we are dismayed" to find the report "riddled with inaccuracies in the section on Singapore". Singapore also took issue with what it described as "a casual approach to the facts" by the State Department, highlighting two inaccuracies among "numerous others" in the TIP Report. The report, released on Monday in Washington, upgraded Singapore's ranking to "Tier Two", which means that while the Republic does not fully meet the minimum standards of the US anti-trafficking laws, it is making efforts to do so.
