SGX to scrape trading lunch break from Aug 1

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Exchange (SGX) said the Singapore securities market will drop its 90-minute lunch break starting August 1. This is to help investors respond to regional market movements and news flow. SGX had delayed the rollout of this move twice. It had been pushing for continuous trading from between 9 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday. This would make the local bourse more competitive with its Asian rivals, including the Hong Kong stock exchange, which expanded its trading hours earlier this year. In Asia, Korea Exchange, India's National Stock Exchange and Australian Securities Exchange already trade without breaking for lunch. Other international exchanges such as New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, and London Stock Exchange operate continuous trading sessions while the Tokyo Stock Exchange plans to increase its trading hours to attract more investors.
