2013 another year of stronger Singapore dollar vs. US dollar

SINGAPORE: The Singapore dollar is expected to gain as much as 4 per cent against the US dollar by the end of 2013, according to most currency analysts after the US Federal Reserve extended its bond buying programmes earlier this month. 2012 saw a strong surge of capital flows into Asia as investors bought into the region's equity and bond markets. And the Singapore dollar is a key beneficiary of quantitative easing rolled out by major central banks. The currency has gained close to 6 per cent against the US dollar this year only losing out to the year-end surge in the Korean Won. In fact, most analysts expect the Korean won to be Asia's top performing currency in 2013, given that the Singapore dollar has already appreciated significantly against the US dollar.
