The CEA has issued guidelines to curb misleading advertisements, following a rise in the number of complaints. … The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) on Wednesday issued stringent guidelines to curb misleading advertisements put up by real estate agents. Taking effect on 1 August, the guidelines are meant to promote "ethical advertising" following a rise in the number of complaints on misleading property adverts. Among others, real estate agents are prohibited from putting out advertisements with claims such as "Advance loans available" and titles such as "specialist" as they may mislead the public. "The guidelines will provide clarity on the dos and don'ts of advertising, thereby raising professional and ethical standards in the industry," said CEA's director of regulatory control Lee Say Kee.
