The correction in risky asset markets we predicted last quarter could now spill over into the early part of the third quarter amid concerns over United States growth, euro area sovereign debt and a possible economic hard landing in China. Without understating the difficulties ahead, we believe the global economy and corporate earnings should continue to grow, albeit at a slower pace. And the decline in equities and commodity prices could prove buying opportunities in what is likely to be another cyclical bull market correction. The ongoing softness in US economic data - in part the result of global production disruptions caused by the triple tragedy in Japan and sharply higher oil prices - is likely to pass later in the year.
