India Gangrape Victim Being Treated in Singapore Hospital - Bloomberg

The 23-year-old Indian victim of a gangrape, which triggered protests and violent clashes in New Delhi , is being treated in a downtown Singapore hospital. “The patient arrived at Mount Elizabeth Hospital ’s intensive care unit this morning at 9:05 a.m. in an extremely critical condition,” the hospital said in an e-mail today. “She is being examined and the hospital is working with the Indian High Commission.” Six men raped and brutalized the woman in a moving chartered bus in the capital city on Dec. 16, sparking outrage and anger that intensified into street demonstrations days later, fueled by postings on Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. sites. Police lifted traffic restrictions and reopened metro stations in central New Delhi yesterday.
