HDB towns now more user-friendly #PR

The Barrier Free Accessibility (BFA) programme has now been fully implemented in all Housing and Development Board (HDB) estates, five years after it was introduced in 2006, revealed Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan in a recent blog post. Overall, the scheme cost S$23 million and benefited about 7,800 flats. The programme included upgrading works such as installation of ramps and railings, as well as unobstructed walkways connecting housing blocks to community facilities. Mr Khaw noted that the BFA “seeks to enhance accessibility for all residents, especially as we prepare for an ageing population.” “Other than helping the elderly and physically disabled, the installation of ramps and handrails under the BFA brings daily convenience to many,” which include housewives using trolleys and parents carrying baby strollers.
