6 In the first half of July 2017, Singapore experienced moderate to heavy thundery showers on most days between the late morning and early afternoon. The showers were due to strong solar heating of land areas coupled with convergence of winds over Singapore and the immediate surrounding vicinity. The wet weather in the first fortnight of the month was also due to the passage of Sumatra squalls which brought widespread thundery showers with gusty winds to Singapore on some days between the predawn hours and early morning. During that period, the rain was heaviest on 14 July 2017 in Bukit Timah, where the highest daily rainfall total recorded was 110.6mm.
