The remote backend is also coded in JavaScript, running on top of Node.js. This enables the real time multiplayer gameplay to be balanced across several Node.js instances on separate servers. As of yesterday, the backend was successfully handling 2,000 simultaneous players. According to Mozilla, the development partners focused on using common standards enabling the game to work just as well on desktop and mobile browsers in order to achieve comparable performance on tablet devices.
