Avoid falling into the trap of big company comforts and pampering, says #Traveloka founder.

I [Derianto] met Ferry at Microsoft when we were both student interns. After graduating from Stanford, I continued working full time at Microsoft for a year. I have always had the mindset of returning back to Indonesia after gaining some work experience in the US. I decided to try out the culture at a smaller company by accepting LinkedIn’s offer shortly before LinkedIn announced its IPO. At LinkedIn, I experienced my first “startup culture” and learned a lot about scaling technology and teams, which proved to be useful later. Ferri and I regularly discussed about the internet industry in Indonesia. Though we have not much knowledge about Indonesia’s conditions at that time, we read much about Indonesia’ startup landscape and imagined much about building various internet services that Indonesia may need.
