Singapore, April 30, 2013 The Straits Times Think of famous food from Malaysia and the popular Penang laksa, Klang bak kut teh and Hokkien mee from Kuala Lumpur come to mind. They have long made their presence felt across the Causeway, in coffee shops, restaurants and hotel buffet promotions here. Over the past year, however, cuisine from Ipoh - the Perak state capital, 200km north of Kuala Lumpur - has become popular, with no fewer than three new outlets opening. They include Ipoh Treats at Changi Village; Ipoh Lou Yau Bean Sprouts by the Select Group, a restaurant and catering company; and Ipoh Buntong Bean Sprout Chicken Kuitiew/Rice, a stall at Jurong Point's Malaysia Boleh - a food court specialising in Malaysian fare.
