I am a fan of Penang-style char kway teow, but it’s an occasional treat for me as the dish is rather unhealthy. So imagine my delight when I spotted this stall selling healthier alternatives of the Penang specialty among the many delicious offerings at Yuhua Market and Food Centre. I immediately placed my order for its Penang char kway teow ($3). At 500kcal per serving, it is a considerably better option than the usual char kway teow dish, which has about 744kcal on average. Besides, this hawker also uses healthier oil and wholegrain noodles. The stall is part of the Health Promotion Board’s Healthier Hawker Programme, which was launched recently.
