- An expat got a rude shock when he was presented the bill after having a seafood feast at Boat Quay. He was reportedly charged $564 for a 3kg crab and $348.80 for a 1.6kg lobster at Forum Seafood Village on Boat Quay. A reader who told Stomp about the incident said diners could avoid such incidents if restaurants inform them about the actual cost of each item. The reader said the expat's bill came up to $1,107.32. It included the costs of a plate of fried rice and four glasses of beer. He said he had a pleasant experience at a Jumbo Seafood outlet recently as the waitress actually told him the cost per kg of their crab and the average weight of the crabs and that for crayfish. That gave him a "better estimate" of his bill. He suggested: "Perhaps this practice should be encouraged at all seafood restaurants to avoid a bill shock."
