Our reader wonders: How many voters realise that #SGpresident does not have the power to influence policymaking?

WHAT considerations would citizens take into account when they cast their votes in the coming presidential election? How many voters are aware of the limitations of a president's powers? How many understand that the president does not have the power to influence policymaking? First-time voters and new citizens probably account for as much as a third of the electorate, since the presidential election last saw a contest in 1993. How much does this new group of voters know about the elected presidency? For voters who know very little about what a president can and cannot do, what fundamental criteria would they use to judge a candidate? One fundamental step in ensuring that the election is dignified and significant is to raise voter awareness about the elected presidency.
