His superior gave him a week to decide which path he wanted to take first: Books or the Navy. He picked the Navy. The newly minted Second Lieutenant, 20, was one of 424 cadets who graduated from the Officer Cadet Course yesterday. From here on, he will serve in the Naval Diving Unit, and enter NUS only after completing his service. He received the Sword of Merit, which is given to the top 10 per cent of the graduating class from Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who reviewed the commissioning parade.
