LIKE a lot of my peers, I'm a cholesterol snob. At my age - I'm 30 - high blood cholesterol does not factor on my list of major health concerns. After all, having maintained a wholesome regular diet of veggies and soupy dishes for the past years, I smugly assumed my cholesterol levels would veer towards the healthy low, or if not, the middle range. Imagine my surprise then, when my results for a recent lipid profile screening test I underwent as part of the Saving 1,000 Lives initiative revealed otherwise. Launched this month, the islandwide initiative is a collaboration between Guardian Health And Beauty and Ocean Health. The latter sponsored 1,000 lipid profile screening kits, which test one's total cholesterol, as well as good and bad cholesterol.
