Reposition internal auditors from the back room to the board room: #iiakl @iiaintlconf

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- There is a need to reposition the internal auditors from backroom to boardroom presence, said organising chairman of 2011 Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) International Conference, Wee Hock Kee. Wee said the boardroom presence required not only hard skills but tremendous ability to demonstrate acquisition of communications and influence skills, leadership and the ability and courage to raise issues to the board as and when needed. "There''s a need for us to continuously train and expose them (internal auditors) to a very senior level. "They must not have fear to raise major issues to the board and be able to challenge the chief financial officers, chief executive officers and senior management when there is a fraud, for example," he said at the 2011 IIA International Conference today.
