SINGAPORE: National pole vaulters Chan Sheng Yao and Rachel Yang have qualified for the SEA Games (Southeast Asian Games) in Indonesia. At the trials held at Gombak Stadium on Saturday, 15-year-old Sheng Yao registered 4.62m to surpass the men's pole vault 'A' qualifying mark of 4.50m. In the women's pole vault, Yang, 29, outperformed the 'A' benchmark of 3.75m in a national record of 3.82m, bettering the previous benchmark of 3.81m, also set by her last August. Sprinter Gary Yeo also edged closer to meeting the 100m 'A' timing of 10.61sec when he clocked 10.62sec. "These results are really good, and it is timely, with the SNOC due to select the athletes soon," said Singapore Athletic Association president Tang Weng Fei.
