Preserving memories key to a strong home: PM Lee Yet they tore down the National Library for a tunnel

SINGAPORE - Preserving the memories of the communities where Singaporeans live is key to making the country a "strong home", said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday as he called on every constituency to create its own heritage trail. These trails should be developed by the community, as a "grassroots, bottom-up" effort, said Mr Lee. Noting that Singapore is a global city and that many citizens travel widely, live or work overseas, the Prime Minister reiterated that the Republic "must always remain our home". Said Mr Lee: "This is our home, our town, our community. We take pride in it, we show people what it is and we will tell the stories about it to the younger ones and the next generation."
