Animal cruelty cases in Singapore up 15%

Reports of cruelty to animals in general - from keeping them in wire cages to abandoning them to tying them up along Housing and Development Board flat corridors - also spiked to some 1,000 alleged cases in the past year, up 15 per cent from the previous year. -- PHOTO: ST FILE THE DOG was panting, trapped in a car in the afternoon with only a gap in the window. An inspector from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) stayed with it for more than two hours, feeding it ice cubes through the gap to lower its temperature. When the dog's owner returned, she insisted that the dog was fine because she had cracked the window open. The SPCA told The Straits Times recently it has investigated more of such cases this year.
