SINGAPORE: The Singapore General Hospital is working with Thong Chai Medical Institute to test the effectiveness of acupuncture in raising a man's fertility rate. The clinical trial needs a sample size of 60 men. So far, only six men have completed the trial of 20 treatments in three months. Each treatment lasts an hour and a half. The number of men seeking infertility treatment at SGH has doubled to 220 in the last five years. The hospital said they are also getting younger - with one out of three below 34 years. 60 per cent of the men also have no known causes of infertility. SGH said the number of couples seeking IVF treatment has also increased by nearly 80 per cent in the past five years. There is also a growing trend to seek treatment less than two years after marriage.
