Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew announced Thursday morning that the Land Transport Authority and SMRT will purchase 13 additional train cars for the LRT line. These will be put into service from 2014. SMRT currently has 19 train cars. Mr Lui said SMRT will also run a parallel bus service to Choa Chu Kang station that serves the Senja, Jelapang and Segar LRT stations. To reduce the number of service disruptions on the line, SMRT will invest $3 million over the next year to improve reliability. Should severe disruptions occur, SMRT has to deploy bus bridging services within 15 minutes, down from the current 30 minutes, to serve affected commuters more quickly.
