Singapore aims for medals in sport climbing

SINGAPORE : Singapore will host the World Youth Sport Climbing Championship for the first time in 2012. And the local climbers can expect a busy schedule this year as they prepare for the major event. Among the plans include taking part in a new ASEAN circuit ahead of the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia, where the sport makes a debut. A group of young climbers from the national team have been hard at work to scale new heights in the sport. Such training is crucial as they prepare for the biggest competition in their lives - the World Youth Climbing Championship. And according to the organisers, world class climbers will be taking part. "We are expecting 500 climbers from all over the world. We expecting (participants from) about 50 or 60 countries to come down.
