Programme launched in Changi Simei to fight chronic diseases

SINGAPORE : Changi Simei Constituency has started off Singapore's first community-based disease prevention programme. Called ECHO - which stands for the Eastern Community Health Outreach - it wants to reach 1,500 residents in the east. The programme sends regular reminders for health screening to participants so as to help them proactively detect chronic disease early. "One of my family members, my dad is having diabetes. So itÂ’s better to have early detection before anything happens to me," said 36-year-old Imran Ahdun, a participant of the ECHO programme. His relative is just as concerned about his health. "In line with my NS vocation as an ambulance medic, illnesses can start since young.
