Letters: Perplexed about the poor 3G network coverage in MRT tunnels

I am perplexed about the poor 3G network coverage in MRT tunnels on the East-West and North-South lines. In the past year, since I switched to a smartphone running on a 3G network, I have faced much frustration getting connected. Performing daily tasks - such as calling my mum after work or checking the arrival time of the connecting bus home - has become very painful. Reception is weak and, often, the call just drops completely. To surf the Net, I have to make use of the 30 seconds when the train stops at each station (where reception is strong). In a country that boasts 99 per cent network coverage by all providers, is it too much to expect reception underground where I spend almost an hour each day? When I finally called my service provider's service centre, they told me there was nothing they could do, except advise me to switch to manual network searching or try switc...
