ASEAN can pull off World Cup

SINGAPORE - If ASEAN want to host a World Cup finals, then the group will have to decide which two countries they name on a joint-bid. FIFA executive committee member Worawi Makudi from Thailand feels the world governing body will not go beyond awarding football's most prestigious show to more than two countries in a joint-bid. He spoke to MediaCorp a day after it was revealed ASEAN foreign ministers had discussed the possibility of a joint-bid for the World Cup finals at their retreat in Lombok, Indonesia. Worawi, who is president of the Football Association of Thailand, said: "After we had two nations co-hosting the World Cup for the first time in 2002, the submissions for the 2018 tournament followed the same practice, with Spain teaming with Portugal, and Holland with Belgium.
