TOKYO JAPANESE shares closed 0.36 per cent higher on Wednesday, helped by confidence in technology stocks after Wall Street was lifted by solid earnings from IBM and Apple. The Tokyo Stock Exchange's Nikkei index added 38.12 points to 10,557.10. The Topix index of all first-section shares gained 0.57 per cent or 5.29 points to 936.87. SHANGHAI Shares in China rose on Wednesday in relatively healthy turnover as investors scooped up companies most likely to benefit from a recovery in the global economy. China's key Shanghai Composite Index was up 1.1 per cent to 2,735.33 by the midday trading break on Wednesday as cash from a lacklustre bond market flowed into stocks, particularly rail and banking issues.
