SINGAPORE - A mega initial public offering (IPO) - which would eclipse SingTel's record $4 billion listing in 1993 - could be on the cards, following news yesterday that Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka Shing's conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa plans to list a business trust here. The trust will hold its port assets in Guangdong province, Hong Kong and Macau. Analysts estimate Hutchison's port and infrastructure portfolio to raise around US$6 billion ($7.7 billion) if the listing obtains the necessary approvals. Analysts expect the listing - if it goes ahead - to take place within the next three to four months. While it might still be early days, analysts are already expecting the trust's entry into the Singapore Exchange (SGX) to attract significant interest from institutional investors.
